The Big Relax 2010

What is The Big Relax?

Congrats on your natural hair journey!

When transitioning from straight hair to natural, there doesn't have to be a big chop. I will show that you can transition from straight to natural and only cut the relaxed hair away once you get the desired length. This is less traumatic and you will not feel like your hair was chopped. And remember, those of you that want to do the big chop, chop away! But my journey will offer an alternative.

Wow! I admire your willingness to want to help others and teach them how to transition properly. I don't know if I would have the strength to go back. However, I do understand why you're doing it.
God bless you Dr. Akbari!

WOW Lisa Akbari.. You are brave. I don't think I could do it. I hope that someone is blessed by you doing so. Most ppl say.. Ohh its just hair, but its more than that in my opinion.. Good LUCK!!

I am looking forward to seeing this. I think it will be helpful for those who want to go natural but do not want to do the big chop. I feel this will be very educational.

umm wow. I think it's great that you are going out of your way to show transitioners, but I think there are other ways to do so...especially since you have probably been through the journey already. I'm sure the transitioning ladies will really appreciate it though. Good luck!

natrlchallenge :

great news! this will help a lot of people as I have transitioned and had to do it alone with my best friend. A lot of trials but much success because we are fully natural and loving it! It takes time and patience and we are still learning what products to use and what not to use. Thank you for your help and your products!!!

Thank the Lord for a real-life self sacrificing teacher. I transitioned for a year and I DID NOT do the BIG CHOP. I was determined to continue to handle the 3 different hair textures with the ultimate care. It was very important for me to get a hair trim every 6 to 8 weeks. I did not do weaves, wigs, braids, or Bantu knots. I simply shampooed and deep conditioned my hair weekly and used a medium heated flat iron. AND if you are thinking my hair must have heat damaged....wrong my hair is at its healthiest state ever! I never realized how beautiful, strong, and thick my hair was until the middle of my transitioning hair journey (6months). Can I be honest? We, women of color, have the most diverse texture of hair (natural state) we can achieve all of the great looks from straight, curly, kinky, or afroed-out with the proper care. So for the sistas contemplating on transitioning to the natural you, embrace and embark on this journey of your true C.O.G. Crown of Glory!
